\u201cWhen my dad told me the first time, he gave me a leaflet on transgender people. I never read it, because I didn\u2019t want information on her, I wanted to know what this meant to me\u201d (Monica Canfield-Lenfest, Guide for transgender young children<\/em>).<\/p>\n

Many trans people have kids. However, their experience is often invisible, both in public services \u2013 like schools or healthcare services) and in the scientific debate. When a family deals with the transition of one parent, then, the resources and tools available to support them in this path are poor and inadequate. This seminar aims at framing transition as a family event, paying special attention to the experiences and viewpoints of children. Enlarging the vision from the transgender person to the parental role allows accounting for the thick twist of relationships that is involved in one\u2019s transition and put the child-parent relationship at center stage. Creating a space wherein welcoming the words and experiences of kids with transgender parents could be a crucial action to make them main characters of their narrative and to open up a space for mutual empowerment.<\/p>\n
