The ERASMUS Strategic Partnership\u00a0<\/span>Geo-philosophy of the Balkans<\/span>\u00a0(GEOBALKANS<\/span>) focuses on developing<\/span>\u00a0curriculum\u00a0<\/span><\/span>that\u00a0<\/span>will promote\u00a0<\/span>trans-<\/span>disciplinary<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span><\/span>\u00a0critical political studies<\/span>, bringing<\/span>\u00a0into dialogue and co-operation various traditions of critical\u00a0<\/span>theory and multiple disciplines\u00a0<\/span>from the humanities and social sciences (psychoanalysis, anthropology, contemporary philosophy, art theory, cultural studies,<\/span>\u00a0memory studies,<\/span>\u00a0gender and s<\/span>exuality studies, media studies<\/span>, human\u00a0<\/span>geography, history etc.), and develop innovative pedagogies, teaching, assessment and learning environments that wou<\/span>ld co-respond to this approach.\u00a0<\/span>Relying on the core critical theory’s commitment to political and cultural transformation and fostering of\u00a0dem<\/span><\/span>ocracy<\/span>,\u00a0justice<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>equality<\/span>,\u00a0reconciliation<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0trans-cultural dialogue<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>openness<\/span>, by leveling the importance and entangling knowledge production and critical analysis with active political and democratic engagement,\u00a0G<\/span><\/span>EOBALKANS<\/span>\u00a0aims<\/span>\u00a0to offer prospective students cross-disciplinary and critical understanding and tools for analysis and research on contemporary political phenomena, by setting the geopolitical location, relations and politics of the Balkans as its major focus of knowledge production and research.<\/span><\/p>\n

W<\/span>ith this program we would like to focus on the specific, \u201cnow and here\u201d, of situated, material, context sensitive and the contingent genealogy, development, meaning and application of the concepts of traditional political theory. The latter involves re-thinking the universal and trans-historical use of political philosophy as being placed, abstractly nowhere and universally everywhere within the context of the Balkans, while simultaneously de-territorializing it in open generality and emerging composites of connections, multiplicity of occurrences<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>contingencies that cut through different disciplines, histories and contexts, and hence produce<\/span>\u00a0new thought on the political.<\/span><\/p>\n

The aim of the t<\/span>rans<\/span>–<\/span>disciplinary Balkan studies\u00a0GEOBALKANS<\/span><\/span>\u00a0is to modernize educational approaches on crucial issues<\/span>\u00a0related to (self -) understanding\u00a0<\/span>of the region to face up the current and future challenges of reconciliation and\u00a0<\/span>Europeanization<\/span>. In light of the increasing and resurfacing illiberal ten<\/span>dencies that stall its European\u00a0<\/span>perspectives the project starts from the premise that studies in social science and humanities in the Balkans are mostly nationally biased, lacking cross-<\/span>regional and trans-disciplinary\u00a0<\/span>dimension. This bias, notably, critically impairs the\u00a0<\/span>processes of reconciliation and\u00a0<\/span>democratization<\/span>\u00a0of the region. Based on this,\u00a0GEOBALKANS\u2019 main ob<\/span><\/span>jective is the establishment of\u00a0<\/span>an integrated, trans-Balkan and trans-European school that will fuse the best European practices in the study of the respective fields, giving them a sound regional dim<\/span>ension,\u00a0<\/span>supported through trans-disciplinary cutting-edge methodologies and cooperation in social sciences, humanities and natural sciences, flexible (<\/span>conventional and digital) study\u00a0<\/span>approaches, covered by distinguished regional and European experts in the field.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The main premises of the\u00a0GEOBALKANS<\/span>\u2019 curriculum are<\/span>\u00a0Bodies Politics, Critique of Illiberal Ideologies, Politics of Borders, Migration and Communities,<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Memory Studies<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The project is organized by\u00a0American University of Europe from Skopje<\/span>\u00a0as a coordinator organization, together with the partner organizations\u00a0<\/span>Singidunum<\/span><\/span>\u00a0University from Belgrade<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Panteion<\/span><\/span>\u00a0University from Athens<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>L\u2019Orientale<\/span><\/span>\u00a0University from Naples<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0University of Verona<\/span>. The partnership is devoted to sharing knowledge, academic and civic practices that will improve the regional and wider cooperation, especially with emphasize on the establishment of the academic axis between Athens, Skopje and Belgrade, supported by the expertise and supervision of relevant sources of knowledge and research that regard the Italian partners, their universities and renowned\u00a0<\/span>research centers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
