Villa focuses on feminist philosophy and theory, LGBTQ theories and studies, with particular attention to the political and social ontology of gender and the cultural and political history of sexuality. Villa have written scholarly and popular contributions on the history of the politicisation of lesbian sexuality in Italy and the United States and on lesbian forms of affect, identity and subculture. Among their books, the monograph <em>La minaccia color lavanda.
