Michela Balocchi, sociologist, PhD in Sociology and Political Sociology (University of Firenze). Marie Curie post-doctoral Fellow with the project ‘INTERSEXIONS’ on the Sociological Aspects of the Management of Intersex Variations (at American University – Washington DC, and University of Verona, 2014-1017). She has collaborated with many Universities as a lecturer, adjunct professor, and researcher, since 2006. She has been a consultant in Gender Studies since 2006 and Intersex Studies since 2009. In 2009 she opened the first information and welcome point for intersex people with all kinds of intersex variations in Italy, based in an LGBTQ+ association in Florence. In 2010 she came up with and organized the first multidisciplinary convention in Italy on the topic of intersex. She is the cofounder of the group intersexioni and the web-editor of the namesake website. She has been a member of the scientific board of the Center of Research PoliTeSse since its beginning.
She is the editor of the first anthology on intersex issues in Italy: INTERSEX. Antologia Multidisciplinare, ETS, Pisa 2019; and co-editor of the first monographic number of a Sociological Italian Journal on intersex issues: Intersex: tra teoria, ricerca e attivismo per i diritti umani, Sociologie III, 1, 2022.
