First Encounter of Arendtian Counciliarism

On June 25, 2025, we had the privilege of engaging in a powerful and moving conversation with @Marci Shore —historian of ideas and author of The Ukrainian Night: An Intimate History of Revolution (Yale University Press, 2018)—at the University of Verona. The discussion touched on memory, philosophy, and the contemporary challenges facing democracy.

In The Ukrainian Night, Shore offers a deeply personal and philosophical account of the 2013–2014 Maidan Revolution in Ukraine, blending intellectual history with eyewitness testimony to explore how ordinary people were transformed by extraordinary political events.

This meeting was part of the international conference “Arendtian Counciliarism: Visions and Care for Democracy”(June 25–27), hosted by the Arendt Center Verona. The event offered a unique opportunity to reflect on Hannah Arendt’s political thought and its enduring relevance in nurturing and sustaining democratic life today

We also had the pleasure of enjoying the Jazz Arendt Hour 🎷 with musician Joris Roelofs from the University of Amsterdam—a beautiful moment of artistic reflection inspired by Arendt’s spirit.
