Gender theory, gender ideology, or even, simply, gender. This rhetorical construct, elaborated by conservative Catholic circles during the 1990s, has been raging in public discourse for about a decade now, functioning as the propaganda glue that unifies the reaction against the achievements of feminist, transfeminist and LGBTQIA+ movements, creating havoc even within these movements.
According to the anti-gender campaign, feminist knowledge, gender studies, and queer theories are said to be the outcome of a plot to destroy the supposed “natural order” of society by corrupting and perverting children and adolescents. In reality, gender is nothing but a babau, a bogeyman artfully constructed to sow panic: to instrumentalize childhood in defense of male and heterocispatriarchal privilege. We, who prefer to see babaus in horror movies, will challenge exactly these privileges by presenting feminist, transfeminist and queer books.
