Truth, Gender, Politics – On the “Fundamental and Incontrovertible” Biological Reality of the Two Sexes

Is the sex binary a biological “given” or a socially constructed “fact”? And who has the authority to determine this? How have the gender wars of recent decades brought about unexpected convergences between the right in power and certain strands of feminism?

Drawing on Hannah Arendt’s thought as well as contemporary scientific debates, the first PoliTeSse seminar of the 2026/2027 academic year will revisit the inexhaustible relationship between truth and politics, sex and gender, nature and culture.

Speaker: Lorenzo Bernini, Professor of Political Philosophy and Director of the PoliTeSse Research Centre (University of Verona).

13 November 2026
12:30–14:30
Seminar Room 2 (Room 2.02), 2nd floor, Palazzo di Lettere
