Can University transform the city?

After exploring the neighborhood to get to know its collective spaces, on June 11 “Linea Rossa entered the university itself — at the Borgo Roma campus — to address the question “Can the university transform the city?” through the presentation of the tenth Urban@it report on cities, “The Italian Public University for Cities and Territories” (Il Mulino, 2024).

Thanks to the contributions of Gabriele Pasqui (Politecnico di Milano) and Nicola Martinelli (Politecnico di Bari), members of Urban@it – National Center for Urban Policy Studies, and under the moderation of Giacomo Mormino (University of Verona), the discussion focused on the role of public universities in urban and territorial development.

Special attention was given to the local context of Verona, with contributions from Giulio Saturni (Cocai), Alberto Bragheffi (Energie Sociali), Giorgio Gugole (ESU Verona), and Adrian Nirca (Unione degli Universitari Verona).

Cities and universities can be inextricably linked in developing policies capable of attracting young students and researchers, offering them the conditions to be — and to feel — full citizens in every sense.
